IT'LL BE BACK

Due to overwhelming popular demand, John Bishop will return, same time, same place, next year, for another great workshop.

The theme for 2008 will be to dress as something starting with your initial.

Here is flyer as promised, better late than never.

2008WORKSHOP FLYER.

Past Events

I need to make a giant apology as I haven't updated this site seriously since last John Bishop workshop due to family commitments and self indulgence of travelling overseas.

So, I will list a few happenings to The Dolphin Line Dancers briefly.

Starting with the success last year of the JB workshop.  We had approx 74 dancers come to enjoy the weekend including one lady from New Zealand who was so impressed she wrote a story for the Line Dancing paper.  Some clubs even pre booked their hotels for the next workshop.

Then in November the Dolphins performed for the local October Fest which is a huge charity fun day in Emu Park every year.

Next came our annual Carols on the beach where the Dolphins performed for the last time for Livingstone Shire councils Carols on the Beach (due to Amalgamation) , where we had the Major joining in and lots of singing along with us.

We had our own Christmas party/social plus a luncheon (just for the food).

New Year saw the Dolphins performing at the last Livingstone Shire Australia Day on the beach. This is always a great success & once again the Mayor & WIN TV news reader, Paul, danced across the stage with us.

Next came the Festival of Wind, where we danced minus Tracey as she had other commitments. This festival is another big charity fund raiser held every year in Emu Park.

From here on I flitted about the globe & didn't participate for a couple of months, but the Dolphins continued to dance for the local retirement village regularly and participated in several other festivities, including Seniors Week & The Lady Mayoresses Cancer Fund Morning Tea.

Now it is all ahead full steam getting everything ready for you all to come and have a ball on October 18th with John Bishop.

 See You Then!

Dolphin Line dancers Turn 10

On Monday 10th September, we held a mini social to celebrate our clubs 10th birthday.  We had lots of fun dancing, specially trying to remember some of the oldies, plus some yummy food which we then had to dance off, including a birthday cake which 3 original members cut to celebrate.  We had the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin drop in to do a story on this impressive milestone and the article was in the Saturday issue with a great photo of the girls doing one of the dances.

Congratulations Tracey and your girls

Jan Wiley in Rocky

Two weeks after Bowen, gluttons for punishment, we trotted off to Rocky, (at least this one was close by), to a workshop that Follyfoot Line Dancers brought Jan Wiley up for.  Once again Dolphins were represented by 7 ladies with 3 having to miss out due to illness.  The day turned out to be very warm and after 4 hours of workshop, learning 8 dances, everyone was hot and tired, but also happily content.  The workshop was a great success as was the social that evening, which unfortunately no Dolphins could attend due to prior commitments.  I think everyone enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot.

 Gordon Elliott at Bowen

Ten Dolphin Line Dancers packed their bags and headed to Bowen for a weekend of dancing with Gordon Elliott.  The Bowen Line Dancers put on a fabulous weekend, providing not only lots of dancing but also a magnificent feast every meal for the whole weekend.  Luckily we danced so much, hopefully our over indulgence of food was counter balanced.  Gordon taught 10 dances, hence the exhaustion. A few of our girls grabbed a nap when ever they could, with Yvonne even laying out on the cement at lunch time and nodding off. We danced from Friday night through to late Saturday night and then headed home, via a day long drive, having spent a very busy weekend in a new environment.

Interclub Day at Rocky

Sue & Leon from Runaround Sioux brought an interclub Brett Jenkins workshop to Rockhampton back in June which was a great success.  Bretts' workshop was during the day where 8 dances were taught and then late afternoon through to the night we had a social with guest instructors dancing on stage, each having a set of about 8 dances.  A great time was had by all, finishing late into the night happily exhausted.

COOLUM APRIL 2007

One lonely dolphin was asked back to do a guest Instructor’s spot at Coolum again in April.

So with hubby Danny in tow off they set for a fun weekend. Saturday afternoon was the river cruise organise by Sue & Leon with drinks and dancing for 2 and ½ hours. The weather was kind (rain was forecast) and all saw the most glorious of sunsets.

The day of the interclub social arrived and Danny had organised a champagne breakfast to calm Tracey’s nerves as she was first guest Instructor on stage. The champagne must of worked as Tracey once again performed well; even John Bishop joined her on stage for one dance in her bracket.

Sue & Leon do a wonderful job organising these interclub socials so we hope you can make the Rockhampton one in June where again Tracey will be on stage. Look forward to seeing you there.

March 2007 saw us having a beach themed party instead of our regular Monday class and below is the star of the day

Australia Day 2007

Yeppoon has a huge Australia Day celebration on the beach front every year with festivities starting at 9am and culminating at 8pm with fireworks.  Mid morning we were asked to do 15 minutes of dances which once again Tracey came up with some dances done to Australian themed songs such as John Williamsons "Home among the Gun Trees".  This time it was extremely hot so we retired to the air conditioned Sailing Club after the demo for lunch.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS

Once again we were asked to dance at Livingstone Councils "Carols By The Beach" but as it was very windy and overcast we had it in the Town Hall.  Tracey chose some of our dances that went well with Australian Christmas Carols which was enjoyed by a packed hall.

Christmas Dance

December 9th saw us celebrating Christmas with dancing of course and Sue's dancers from Rocky joined us.  Everyone come dressed for the occasion, with Red, green and sparkles all over the place.  Tracey and Danny did an excellent job of decorating the hall for us and we danced for around 5 hours, only stopping for a light supper half way through.

2006 John Bishop Workshop

21st October started early with decorating the hall and fine tuning the equipment in readiness for 75 fun loving line dancers arrived from all over Queensland, even one from Melbourne.  They came from Sunshine Coast, Childers, Boyne Island, Calliope, Gladstone, Tannum Sands, Rockhampton, Mt Morgan, Emerald, Mackay, Bowen, as you can see, they came from everywhere. During the morning session we had the WIN news cameraman come and film some of the session.  This footage was shown on WIN news on Monday night after the weather.  Did you see yourself?

John started us off easy with "Dancin' in the Tub", then we learnt 3 more dances before breaking for a delicious lunch.  After lunch, there were 4 more dances for us to indulge in. The other dances were:- "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'", "Here I Am", "Love is in the Air", "Make Love to Me", "Mr Pinstripe Suit",  and Johns own "Shirley's Sugar Shack"  & "Stone Cold Sober".

After a days enjoyment, we all found our place to re-energise for the social that night.  Most clubs had sent requests for the social and we managed to cover over 70 dances during the evening.  We had some great theme costumes (the seaside) and a lot of door prizes plus more yummy food for supper.  It was great to see so many clubs coming together for a lot of dancing and a great time was had by all.  Such a good time was had that several of the clubs have already booked their motels for next year.

I'd like to thank all the girls from The Dolphin Line Dancers who worked hard, mostly behind the scenes, making sure you all had a great day and night and were well fed.  THANKS GIRLS.

SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR

Wow, what a trip. After a 6 1/2 hr drive on Friday 4th August 2006, Danny (Driver/Husband), Tracey, Gloria and Doreen arrived at Coolum in readiness for Tracey's guest instructress spot at Runaround Sioux's interclub social dance.

Saturday -The day of Runaround Sioux interclub social day has arrived with much nerves and anticipation. Tracey was instructor 5 on stage and from the reports that Gloria and Doreen tell, Tracey did a great job, even using the old joke of where is Yeppoon well it's next to your Knife and Fork. Tracey was only nervous for the short period between stepping on stage and completing the first dance successfully.   It was great to see so many dancers on the floor during all the dances, especially the dance I Never Work on a Sunday. Tracey was well received and made to feel very welcome there. After dancing for 6 hours it was time to go back to the unit and put the feet up. There were about 125 Line Dancers at the event for the day and it was great to meet other instructors from surrounding areas. If you ever have a chance, go to one of these events as it is a great friendship day. Thanks Sue and Leon for all your hard work and to your band of supporters.

The following 2 days were R & R seeing the scenery, bargain shopping & a leisurely drive home.

June long weekend 2006, saw 11 Dolphin Line Dancers heading for Hervey Bay for a Gordon Elliott workshop.  A great time was had by all and after 10 new dancers, followed by a 5 hour social, 3 car loads of tired dancers returned home the next morning.  Then we all fronted up for our normal Monday morning lesson.

All gathered together for a group photo with Gordon,

but where's Nolene?   In the little girls room.

March 25th 2006 was our next social evening.  It was very successful with a few girls from as far as Emerald. The winner of our purple theme was our own Joanie H, followed by Noelene and then Mary H. They even got gold silver & bronze medals.  The raffle was also drawn with people not in attendance winning.

Our Winners

August saw us inviting John Bishop to Yeppoon to conduct workshops.  We had quite a good roll up with the local TV station doing a news item on the workshops, plus a couple of the radio stations doing interviews with John.  A great time was had by all and there were lots of new dances doing the rounds in Central Qld.

In May 2005, 7 of the Dolphin Line Dancers attended a weeks long workshop held at Long Island in the Whitsundays with John Bishop and Tom Glover as Instructors.  A great time was had by all and many new dances brought back for the rest of the club to learn.
